*****ADJECTIVE WITH PREPOSITIONS*****

 Sejumlah kata sifat (adjective) digunakan dengan kata depan (preposition) secara permanen dan merupakan suatu aturan yang tidak dapat berubah, seperti afraid of, angry with, keep on, etc. misalnya kita tidak mengatakan : I am afrais to the dog, tetapi I am afraid of  the dog (saya takut akan anjing).

 Adjective diikuti oleh : for

to be enough for             =  cukup untuk

to be famous for             =  terkenal karena

to be grateful for (to)     =  berterima kasih atas

to be ready for               =  siap untuk

to be responsible for       =  bertanggung jawab atas

to be sick for                  =  rindu akan

to be suitable for            =  cocok untuk

to be qualified for (in)    =  cakap dalam

to be sorry for                =  menyesal akan, kasihan akan

 

e.g.  My sister is well-qualified for typing.

She was grateful for your advice.

He says that he was sorry for what he did.

John says that he is not responsible for this mistake.

My uncle is sick for his home-country (=kampung halaman).

 

Adjective diikuti oleh : of

to be afraid of                =  takut akan

to be ashamed of            =  malu akan

to be aware of                =  sadar akan

to be capable of              =  cakap dalam

to be critical of               =  kritis terhadap

to be fond of                  =  dengan sekali akan

to be full of                    =  penuh akan

to be glad of                   =  gembira akan

to be jealous of               =  cemburu kepada

to be proud of                =  bangga akan

to be tired of                  =  jemu dengan

 

e.g.  He is very critical of everyone.

They are not capable of doing anything.

John is very fond of classical music.

Mary is jealous of her younger sister.

We were tired of doing the same things over and over.

to be anxious to              =  ingin sekali akan

to be attentive to            =  tertarik kepada

to be contrary                 =  berlawanan dengan

to be equal to                 =  seimbang dengan

to be faithful to              =  setia kepada

to be generous to            =  murah hati kepada

to be kind to                   =  ramah kepada

to be polite to                 =  sopan kepada

to be rude to                   =  kasar kepada

to be sensitive to            =  peka terhadap

to be obedient to            =  patuh kepada

to be useful to                =  berguna untuk

 

e.g.  John is very attentive to every pretty girl.

The richman is generous to everyone in the village.

We must be polite to our elders.

We should not be sensitive to criticism.

I am anxious to your coming to my wedding.

 

Adjective diikuti oleh : with

to be angry with             =  marah kepada

to be consistent with      =  sesuai dengan

to be delighted with       =  gembira dengan

to be familiar with          =  ramah, mudah bergaul dengan

to be patient with           =  sabar kepada

to be pleased with          =  senang dengan

to be popular with          =  terkenal dengan

to be satisfied with        =  puas dengan

 

e.g.  You need to be angry with her.

She is very familiar with others.

We are delighted with your success.

My uncle is very patient with his children.

We were pleased with our examination result.

to be bad at                    =  buruk dalam

to be clever at                 =  pandai dalam

to be efficient at             =  rapi dalam

to be expert at (in)          =  ahli dalam

to be good at                  =  pandai dalam

to be slow at                   =  lambat dalam

to be astonished             =  heran, takjub akan

 

e.g.  They are very bad at English.

Mary is not efficient at her work.

The doctor is an expert at plastic-surgeon.

My sister is very good at mathematics.

She is very slow at doing everything.

 

Adjective diikuti oleh : about

to be anxious about        =  khawatir tentang

to be careful about         =  hati-hati tentang

to be curious about         =  ingin tahu tentang

to be doubtful about      =  ragu tentang

to be enthusiastic about =  bersemangat dalam

to be happy about          =  bahagia akan

to be sad about               =  sedih akan

to be worried about        =  khawatir tentang

e.g.  My sister is always anxious about everything she does.

We must be careful about what we say to him.

He is not enthusiastic about his new job.

They are curious about the problem.

We were very happy about our promotion.

 

Adjective diikuti oleh : in

to be successful in          =  sukses dalam

to be deficient in            =  kurang dalam

to be fortunate in           =  beruntung dalam

to be honest in                =  jujur dalam

to be proficient in           =  pandai dalam

to be skillful in               =  mahir dalam

to be weak in                  =  lemah dalam

 

e.g.  He is deficient in general knowledge.

You are fortunate in getting that position.

My little sister is very skillful in playing organ.

I think he is quite honest in everything.

They are successful in their planning.

 

Adjective diikuti oleh : from

to be absent from           =  tidak hadir dalam

to be away from             =  jauh dari

to be different from       =  berbeda dengan
